We’re moving to Albuquerque in June and my parents recently visited Atlanta for their final time. My dad loves old school porters and old school porters are great autumn beers. So I made a porter.

I was aiming for a slightly roasty, low abv beer with some good chocolate notes. I think I got pretty close to that profile with a little too much roast and the color was a little more red than I think a porter is supposed to be – but to be fair, it’s a great color.

My dad really enjoy the beer and that was the most important thing. I also have drank a lot of it on the front porch this fall while the leaves change.

What would I do differently if I make this beer again?
* Next time I make this beer I’m going to use less chocolate and maris otter malt and increase the brown malt a little bit for less roast, more chocolate, and a darker color.
